Who We Are

Campus Oxford promotes high quality summer and semester programs for high school, GAP year and college students and advises students, parents, their counselors and independent consultants on suitable educational courses and programs in the UK, including university degree courses.

Ralph Dennison, our Director, is an experienced educationalist with extensive knowledge of  the US and UK educational systems and requirements.  He has worked with hundreds of US and other international students over thirty years, mainly those taking courses in the UK before returning home, but also those transferring into the UK system.  He was the founder and Principal of Oxford Tutorial College, one of the foremost independent colleges in Oxford, and also the prestigious Oxford Advanced Studies Programs for summer and Gap Year students.  These programs have become a benchmark for experiences of this type.  Ralph has gained extensive contacts in the US and elsewhere and worked with many educational consultants and school counsellors.  Our Registrar, Ruth Cooper, has worked alongside him for many years, as Registrar of Oxford Tutorial College and subsequently when Campus Oxford was established.  She is able to provide expert advice to all enquirers and clients, alongside our Recruitment Co-ordinator, Elanor Dennison, who has a strong background in student support and mentoring and in program management.

We partner with quality providers in Oxford and the UK, including Oxford Tutorial College, which organises and hosts the Gap Year programs, Bucksmore Education, Brasenose College, Oxford and Magdalene College, Cambridge, organisers and hosts respectively of the Advanced Studies summer program.  Links with universities enable us to assist with placements on undergraduate and postgraduate courses.  Our knowledge of the educational system and contacts with providers enables us to give top-quality advice and ongoing support to our student clients and their families.

Campus Oxford thus builds on its long-standing relationships with high school counsellors and independent consultants, and on our experience in advising students and parents, based on an understanding of pathways available and student aspiration and aptitude.  We offer a bespoke supportive service for students who wish to study in Oxford or Cambridge over the summer or in their Gap Year or who are considering taking a college degree in the UK.

Our Relationship With Academic Counselors

Over the past twenty-five years we have developed close working relationships with a number of educational consultants and have regularly attended conferences of the Independent Educational Consultants Association (IECA) and the Higher Educational Consultants Association (HECA) in order to maintain professional contact and keep up-to-date with educational issues.

We have presented at both conferences on the benefits of a Gap Year and of international educational experience.  Many US schools have invited visits to discuss our programs and their student needs and issues and we maintain contact with guidance counsellors at these schools.

Student advisors regularly contact us to discuss specific student backgrounds and requirements and to help us assess how the programs may best serve their clients and we welcome such contact.  Dialogue is maintained during students’ time in the UK, to keep their advisors up-to-date on progress and to help ensure a smooth transition once the student has returned home.

Supporting Academic Ambition

Most of those who enrol on the programs are aiming for a place at a good college or university and we liaise as requested with their schools and advisors in the application process, particularly the college essay,  and in strengthening the student’s qualifications.  The value of expert tuition, often on a one-on-one basis, cannot be over-emphasised, and students work with highly-qualified and experienced tutors to develop their subject knowledge and interpretation and to enhance their study methods.

Additional entrance tests – such as SAT, ACT and AP –  may be organised  and preparation classes arranged.

Higher Education in the United Kingdom

UK Higher Education provision is world-class and fees compare favourably with those of US colleges.  Most first degree courses are of three years duration and allow for greater specialism in a chosen major.  Undergraduate degrees in Law and Medicine are available and Business-related degrees are also popular.   A significant number of students are interested in applying to UK universities, aware of the benefits, and we offer our expertise when requested in selecting suitable institutions and courses and in making strong applications.

Consultants and Guidance Counsellors find the help we provide of significant benefit in offering their own advice to students and parents.

Pastoral Care On The Programs

Student self-reliance and independence are encouraged; each student’s health, safety and well-being are considered to be of the utmost importance and any problem or difficulty may be raised with us.  Our role is to help ensure students benefit from and enjoy their experience and we are are available to listen to any issues they have.  We appreciate the importance of student safety and happiness, both for their own sake and to enable them to derive the most benefit from their time and make it a success.

Oxford and Cambridge both have excellent and well-equipped hospital complexes and students can be assured of the best medical care.  For routine treatment, an appointment can be made with the college doctor at short notice.  Parents must advise us of any present or previous medical condition or health issue in advance of arrival, by completing a medical questionnaire.  Comprehensive medical insurance is included in the course fee.
