The University of Cambridge was founded in 1209 after scholars and students left Oxford due to tensions with local people and established a new center of learning.  The colleges and academic institutions began to be established in the thirteenth century and today have become knitted into the fabric of the city.  Cambridge University is often rated as the best university in the world.

Cambridge provides a superb backdrop of scholarship and timeless splendour, rich with world-class academic achievement and steeped in history.  It is the home of some of the greatest minds of the age and some of the most significant theories and inventions of all ages, across all intellectual disciplines.

At the same time the city has an aura of timeless tranquility, it is a quiet and elegant city, with aesthetic magnificence in its historic buildings and restful beauty in its quaint cobbled streets, gardens and the river which runs throughout.

Magdalene College, University of Cambridge

The summer program takes place in Magdalene College, which was founded in 1428 and is the seventh oldest Cambridge University College.  Located just north of the city centre on the River Cam, it enjoys the longest riverfront of any college.  Magdalene is famous for housing the diaries of Samuel Pepys, the writer who recorded the events of the Great Fire of London in 1666.

Older, more traditional Magdalene buildings such as the famous Pepys Library are complemented by the modern Cripps Court accommodation and teaching block.  Student bedrooms, teaching rooms and the dining hall are all located in the main college buildings.  Students all have single rooms, half of which have en-suite bathrooms. Wi-Fi is available across the campus.  It is also a very short walk to the historic centre of Cambridge and the many attractions, shops and cafes on offer to students.

If you join us this summer, you will follow in the footsteps of the 10 Kings and Queens, 45 Presidents and Prime Ministers, and 89 Nobel Prize winners who were all educated at Cambridge University.  Cambridge is a small, intimate city dominated by impressive university buildings.  It is the ideal location for a traditional English summer school.
