Ely & Ely Cathedral

Ely cathedral dates from 1083, and occupies the site of a church built by St Ethelreda in AD 672.  It is a notable example of Romanesque style, with more recent Gothic additions.  The central octagonal tower is spectacular, both in the internal space and in its dominance of the surrounding Cambridgeshire landscape.  A popular tourist destination, it receives over two hundred thousand visitors annually.
