Business looks at the theories and ideas that underlie Business decisions and the practical application of these. Students gain a practical understanding of the working of a variety of businesses and develop the ability to analyse businesses via case studies to offer interpretations of business practice and advice on how to improve the current situation.
In A-Level Business, students study businesses in a variety of contexts looking at large and small businesses, global and local and service and manufacturing businesses. Throughout the course students are taught how to understand the context of decision making, the interrelated nature of business activities and the competitive environment. They also assess the factors behind decisions and what make these succeed to fail. In a changing world, students also consider the impact of technology and the effects of business on the environment and how these impact business decision-making. Students are also made aware both of day to day decisions in business and broader strategic decisions and the differing bases for both of these.
EDUQAS (WJEC) A-Level Business is taught within the two-year and five-term A-level programmes.
Business is taught in small groups and students are encouraged to build up a good practical and theoretical understanding of business which they apply to specific questions and case studies. Management, market performance, operational issues and human resources are all assessed. Emphasis is also placed in understanding strategic direction and decision making and the issues involved in pursuing new strategies and approaches. In the final examinations, students are assessed through multiple choice questions, extended answers and structured questions. They also use stimulus materials to undertake a case study.
AQA A-Level Business is also available as a one year or two-term retake programme.
