Sociology is the study of the development and structure of society: how we form social relationships, how we organise into groups and how those groups behave. This course will survey the emergence of the discipline, through Marx, Durkheim and Weber, to its present form and understand the methods and theories of this social science. Students will learn social research methods and examine the individual in various social contexts, and through a range of topics, from gender, family, race and ethnicity to religion and the media.
