Social Psychology

How do people relate to one another and make sense of their social world? This course will familiarise students with the principles of social psychology so they can understand social relationships, interpersonal interactions and apply psychological concepts to their daily lives. Topics include group norms and dynamics, group identity, prejudice and stereotyping and how social attitudes can be measured, understood and changed. Students will conduct a pilot research project to get a flavour of the nature of experimentation in social psychology. Classes will include extensive discussion and case study analysis with room for students to research more deeply a topic of personal interest. Students must have studied Introduction to Psychology, or its equivalent, to join this course.
