Architecture is a highly-skilled multidisciplinary field and the variety of career pathways available make it a very rewarding discipline to explore. However, it can be difficult to gain insight into the study of this subject before committing to a 7-year degree at university. The aim of this architecture programme is to provide participants with clear insight into the life of an architecture student, and the career potential that the profession can offer. Participants develop their theoretical understanding of the key principles behind architecture, and crucially build a range of practical skills as they develop a portfolio of sketches.
Using Cambridge and its buildings as a backdrop and a prime example of architectural design, students will look at plan, structures, materials, and practical examples of elevation used in Palladian and Gothic architecture in the city. Students will also look at theories of contemporary architecture, axonometric drawing, design propositions, typology and programming, using these to develop their own design proposals using three dimensional digital modelling techniques.
