Classic mechanics is tightly bound to the University of Cambridge via its founding father, Sir Isaac Newton, active at Trinity College. Students on this challenging physics course will further their knowledge of mechanics to more complex problems like kinematics, naturally leading to the study of wave phenomena, using sound and vibrating guitar strings, and the study of light in optical products from telescopes to reading glasses! Students will delve into electronic engineering, which applies the general principles of electromagnetism to digital circuits, sensors, actuators, mobile telecommunications, optic fibres, discussing the role the Industrial Revolution and the discovery of generating and controlling electricity. Students will also cover Electricity and Magnetism, Thermodynamics and States of Matter, Atoms, Nuclei and Elementary Particles, Quantum Mechanics I and II and the theory of relativity. Students will be taken on an awe-inspiring excursion to the physics department, also know as the Cavendish laboratory at the University of Cambridge where they will be given a guided tour, and the opportunity to meet and interact with researchers.
