Our Gap students arrived at the beginning of September, and are quickly settling in to their new lives in Summertown, Oxford. By now they will know where the local supermarkets are, to buy their groceries and snacks, if they are living at Logan House. They will be used to walking down the Banbury road towards St. Clare’s college, past Gail’s and Taylors coffee shops, Waterstones, Charles Clinkard shoe shop, the various estate agents and Pizza Express to St. Clare’s International college.
St Clare’s welcomed them last week with a classic British BBQ, which had to take place indoors to escape the rain! Typical! It was a chance however, for the students to be able to all meet in one place, talk about their experiences, their countries of origin, and make travel plans for the weekends. One of the advantages of spending time in Oxford, is how well connected it is to everywhere, as it’s under an hour away from London on the train. St. Clare’s will organise day trips and weekend excursions to Cambridge, Liverpool, Bath, and many other wonderful UK cities. Students will spend the week attending class in their five chosen subjects in small groups, take part in evening activities like quizzes, dinners out, games, and at the weekends, can opt to take up the excursions offered, or hop on a Eurostar to Paris or a two-hour flight to Barcelona, Spain or anywhere else in Europe. It is the perfect way to see European destinations, whilst experiencing college life and becoming more independent.
