The sun is shining, the daffodils are in bloom throughout Oxford’s university parks, there is a definite Spring hum of bees, and you can hear university students laughing on their way to class. This is one of the loveliest times of year to be in Oxford, a city full of culture, incredible gothic architecture, academic promise and possibilities.
Oxford is one of the world’s oldest and most famous university cities. The University boasts some notable alumni like C.S. Lewis, author of “The Chronicles of Narnia”, J.R.R.Tolkien, who wrote “The Hobbit” and “The Lord of the Rings”, our first female Prime Minister, Baroness Margaret Thatcher, one of 28 Prime Ministers who studied here, as well as 30 international leaders, 55 Nobel prize winners and 120 Olympic medal winners. Oxford produces some of our brightest authors, playwrights, actors, politicians, scientists, explorers and philosophers. It is a place to broaden the mind and find oneself.
When our students arrive in Oxford, they will find themselves right in the heart of the city’s university colleges. They will essentially become Oxford university students and experience the life of an undergraduate for those two weeks. They will stay in college accommodation, looking out onto the beautiful green quads, dine in the dining rooms once frequented by the likes of poet and author, Oscar Wilde, and suffragist Emily Wilding Davidson. They will take part in small tutorial groups where debate and argument will help them develop the critical thinking skills they will need later on in life.
Our summer residential programmes not only provide the perfect environment for academic learning, and improving career prospects, they are also a great opportunity for students to make friends from all over the world. Every year, we put together a comprehensive, fun, social calendar so that students can meet up, play sports, take part in games, quizzes, painting parties, murder mysteries, barbecues and organised day trips to Cambridge or London. It is an unforgettable experience and one your teenager will thank you for.
